The Teacher Uses Data to Make Informed Decisions to Respond to Student Learning

When teachers address specific group errors, gather immediate and ongoing data about student mastery and make in-the-moment and strategic decisions about student learning, that impacts student achievement.

How it works:

  • Students become consistently firm in the lesson content and reach mastery in ever shorter times. This results in students making standard progress and catching up.
  • Teachers regularly examine data, paying attention to patterns of success and difficulty.
  • Teachers can attend to student errors and mastery which enables them to be efficient in resolving any learning issues that show up during the lesson.
  • The teacher uses data to inform instructional decisions about whether students can move on, be accelerated or what segments of lessons to repeat.
  • Teachers track student errors to see if students are consistently making errors on a particular skill and if several students are making the same error.
  • The teacher can then immediately respond to students’ needs.
