Correcting Independent Work
Correcting Independent Work with Workchecks
- Students take out checking pens, put away pencils and erasers.
- Individual students take turns reading a question and the answer (or the teacher may do this).
- Provide visual answers whenever appropriate.

- Move at a quick pace that students can keep up with.
- Students mark incorrect items with an ‘x’ and correct items with a tick.
- After all items are marked, students fix up any items they missed with their checking pen.
- It is acceptable to conduct the workcheck from the previous day at the beginning of the next scheduled class.
- The workchecks and fixups must be done before beginning the next lesson.
- Provide additional verbal or written delayed tests on commonly missed items.
- The Teacher Presentation Book or Teaching Guide tells whether to do workchecks or teacher checks.
- Workchecks allow students to get immediate feedback, which leads them to be more diligent.
- Students who correct their own work can ask questions to clarify misunderstandings.
