Students are Confident, Engaged Learners and Have Appropriate Behaviour

Explain how it works

When independent work is assigned, students show what they have learned; because they can do it on their own, their self-confidence grows. During monitoring teachers tick which answers are correct. Students see they are learning or when the teacher dots an incorrect answer students can try again and figure out the correct answer. Work checks hold students accountable for high quality work and they learn that their accuracy and effort are important.

Work checks provide additional opportunities for students to interact with the information in a lesson. In addition, because students check their own work (rather than exchange books and papers with others), they are likely to learn from their mistakes so that errors do not become patterns that persist day to day. When students’ independent work is corrected it provides students with evidence that they are learning and progressing in the program, which helps them increase self-confidence.
