Ashton, a new teacher, has a scheduled observation with instruction coach, Emma, that will determine which techniques and practices he will need to apply to gain improvement and mastery this quarter. At the last minute the observation has been cancelled because Emma is absent. The observation has been cancelled twice before for the same reason. Ashton is four weeks into the school year without having been observed, given feedback or been able to practise and improve techniques. He is not sure how he can apply improvement and mastery in his classroom if he is not receiving regular expert coaching due to excessive absences.
