The Teacher Does Not Share Improvement with Leadership

Teacher, Casey, met with a new student’s parent to learn more about them. According to the parent, she is newly divorced from the child’s father and the student is having a hard time adjusting. He sometimes does not want to go to school which results in being late an excessive number of times. His excessive tardiness results in loss of instruction and impacts his learning outcomes.

Casey has a plan to increase his attendance and reduce his excessive tardiness. She offers the student a reward system for every time he comes to school on time. After being on time for 5 consecutive days, he will earn a reward. The parent, student and the teacher agreed that would be the best way. Casey has shared the plan with her Principal Fred.

Casey has been implementing the reward program with Student, Nick, for three weeks. He has only been tardy 3 days out of the 15 and absent zero. Principal, Fred, wants a weekly update of his school attendance and the data shows an increase in learning outcomes. Casey is gathering the information to send to the principal when the instruction coach Carley pulls her out for a group meeting on a new curriculum program they will begin implementing next week.

Fred never receives the data he has requested, so it never gets shared with the leadership team. Principal, Fred, cannot determine that Nick’s progress aligns with the School Improvement Plan and cannot celebrate the success with student, Nick.
