Not Teaching to Mastery
Teacher Ivan is teaching reading. He teaches each exercise as written but does not firm students on every exercise. The students do their independent work, Ivan does not check independent work until the end of the week and does not reteach or have students fix their errors. Students sit for their mastery test.

What Happens Next?
Only one of the eight students passes their mastery test. Teacher, Ivan, must go back and reteach parts of previous lessons and retest his students. Several of his students are absent the day after the mastery test. He decides to teach the next lesson instead of reteaching and retesting until all students are in attendance. He forgets to go back to reteach and retest.
Impact
His students are not meeting the criterion as lessons continue. His students are moved back twenty lessons, repeating them to master the content. His students are not on track nor are they catching up.
