Error Correction Enables Teachers to Track Errors and Respond to Student Mastery

Teacher, Emma, is pointing to sounds during a reading lesson. Some students misidentify a sound. She uses the full correction procedure to provide corrective feedback. Emma says, ‘My turn, … rrrrr. Say it with me … rrrr. All by yourselves.’ Students say ‘rrrr’ correctly. Emma then provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their learning by providing them with individual turns so that she can track student errors and mastery. She gives specific positive praise to her students and retests them on the sound when they return to their next reading lesson.
