Long Vowel and Short Vowel Rule Correction

Another example of a specific error correction rule is related to the long and short vowels.

Students read a column of long-vowel words, a column of short-vowel words and a column of short- and long-vowel words. The correction is specified in a box on the format page.

The process is:

  • Students read the list of long-vowel words.
  • Students read the list of short-vowel words.
  • Say, ‘Everybody, read these words again. Remember what you say if there is an e on the end of a word.‘
  • Students read the mixed list of words.
  • Give each student an individual turn to read.
  • When errors occur, the teacher follows the correction specified in a box on the format page.
