Teacher Observes Instruction Coach Delivering Mastery of Hand Signals

Jason is observing his instruction coach deliver effective teaching by demonstrating mastery in hand signals. Instruction coach Lola is teaching the lesson ‘adding and subtracting within 20.’ She grabs the student’s attention by using a popular phrase. Lola asks the question, ‘Is this an addition or subtraction problem?’ She reads the problem and points to the words ‘all together.’ She gives the students time to think to allow simultaneous responses from all students. She asks all students the question again and cues for them to answer. Lola can demonstrate mastery, so Jason can implement the practise into his future lessons.
