Parent Cancels Classroom Visit

Braxton’s parent has cancelled a visit to receive his child’s report card for the third time. Lena is forced to send the report card home with the child without having a meaningful conversation with the parent. She is not able to celebrate Braxton’s awesome grade in math, but also cannot discuss the areas that need improvement such as comprehension in reading that is also affecting science and history. Lena wanted to give the parent some tips on how to help him at home, so he wrote them down and sent them home with the student report card. After several weeks, Lena notices Braxton’s assessments in reading comprehension still have not improved and have even declined. During any reading time, Braxton begins becoming increasingly disturbing to the class and does anything to avoid the task at hand.
