Student Behaviour Does Not Improve

When behaviour plans are not enacted, it is likely that a student’s behaviour problems will either stay the same or worsen. The student is unlikely to learn strategies to improve their individual behaviour.

Teacher:

• does not identify the student’s behavioural problems
• does not observe the student or collects data on the behaviours in question to use in collaboration with the school team
• does not indicate how behaviour impacts the student’s ability to progress socially.
• does not provide the student with supports that are tailored to the individual student such as preferential seating, visual cues, intermittent breaks, or incentives
• spends more time on reactive behaviour management techniques when interacting with the student
• maintains or increases the occurrence of challenging behaviours.

Student:

• Does not improve social and emotional skills
• Does not feel safe and seen
• Does not learn effective coping strategies
• Does not learn executive functioning skills
• Does not learn to regulate emotions
• Is provided with negative reinforcement for behavioural interruptions.
