Empowers Students to Show their Learning and Gain Confidence
Using engagement techniques is a highly effective way to empower students to show their learning and gain confidence. Students are guided in their practise as they perform tasks to practise and demonstrate their learning before providing their individual response. Students gain confidence and feel empowered as they complete tasks and answer questions correctly. They are in turn motivated.

Engagement techniques like pair-share provide a safe space for students to verbalise and rehearse answers before providing them individually. This builds confidence and increases the likelihood that the information will be stored in long-term memory, allowing them to recall the information in independent work.
Additionally, when students respond to the teacher’s questions in complete sentences, they link the key part of the question with the answer. This boosts comprehension and language skills and aids in the application of academic language. Students feel empowered that they can answer correctly, and they have the language to do so accurately to show their learning.
