Does Not Participate in Collegial Conversations
School team members fail to work closely together, so support for student behaviour is lacking. Teachers do not get help from school leaders for help with major behaviour incidents. Teachers do not work with the school leaders to develop Individual Behaviour Plans for students when needed, and they do not communicate with parents about student behaviour concerns.
The Problem is Compounded
The principal:
- does not encourage collaboration and collegiality across the teaching team and leadership team
- does not share school improvement data openly
- focuses on negatives or challenges at staff meetings.
The instruction coach:
- does not encourage collaboration and collegiality across the teaching team
- does not acknowledge improvement or uses the knowledge and skills of experienced teachers.
The teaching team members:
- do not welcome observations and visits to their classroom
- do not take on feedback, coaching and training to their professional practice
- do not share techniques and strategies that demonstrate improvement with peers
- do not feel comfortable asking for assistance from experienced peers or leadership.
