Educational Outcomes for Students Do Not Improve
When principals do not create a positive high-expectations culture, it leads to lower educational outcomes for all students.
The Problem is Compounded
The following occurs:
- student outcomes do not improve
- student outcomes vary widely depending on the expertise of the teacher
- students do not have expectations set for them, so they start to disengage from learning
- students also become complacent and do not strive for mastery as this has not been modelled for them
- students cannot achieve mastery or catch up
- students develop gaps in their understanding and need remediation
- students do not make standard growth so fall behind
- student mastery data stays the same or declines as issues related effective teaching are compounded
- students behaving in an inappropriate manner increases.
When the teaching team is not confident in their delivery of effective teaching techniques and practices, they cannot:
- teach for the full timetabled period
- complete lessons in standard time
- meet standard lesson progress rate
- achieve mastery with their students
- address gaps in students learning, ensuring they are firm in their understanding of lesson content
- demonstrate mastery in mastery tests and checkouts.
