The Principal and Team Members Brainstorm School Improvement Goals

Principal Paul holds a team meeting to discuss the upcoming year’s school improvement goals. He puts his teachers, instruction coaches and other team members into groups by grade level and hands them data from the most recent assessment.

They are asked to brainstorm two academic goals that are the school’s weaknesses based on this year’s data. Each goal must be a SMART goal: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-based.

Paul asks each team to share as he writes them on a board. The team leaders and staff then vote on which two should make it into the improvement plan based on the highest need.

At the end of the allotted time, Paul schedules a follow-up team meeting that will talk about professional learning, teaching techniques and materials that can be implemented to enhance the delivery of teaching and work towards the school’s improvement goals.
