The Principal Uses Data to Make Decisions About Professional Development
The Principal, Rosa, meets with the instruction coach, Jared, weekly to review the Weekly School Improvement Review Report. During the meeting, the school leaders discuss data concerning professional learning progress, student mastery, lesson progress and more.
Rosa identifies Liam, a teacher, who has not met his professional learning target that week. She advises Jared to meet with Liam to create a plan on how to get his module progress back on track and to adjust Jared’s timeline due to this missed target.
Rosa also identifies two teachers – Ursula and Xavier – who have surpassed their professional learning targets that week. She makes a note to celebrate their achievement in the staff meeting that week. Rosa also looks at their weekly student data and notices improvements over the past week that align with their professional learning.
Later in the week, in the staff meeting, Rosa provides an update to the whole team on their professional learning progress. She gives a special shout out to Ursula and Xavier on how they are on top of their professional learning and working at a brisk pace and how there has been improvement in their student mastery because of this.
