Modelling Techniques
The whole class is actively engaged in pronouncing, reading, tracking or gesturing with the teacher.
Pronounce with Me
Before engaging in the learning, the teacher pronounces the new word and provides a definition. Students hear the correct pronunciation before practising it themselves.
Read with Me
The teacher uses read with me to rehearse a portion of the text, setting the pace and keeping everyone together. Choral reading helps build fluency and promotes confidence and motivation.
Track with Me
Teachers use track with me to help students connect oral words with written words, as well as in pre-reading difficult words and when encountering formulas and equations students are unfamiliar with reading. This allows students to become familiar with the words before they read the material in a choral reading.
Gesture with Me
The teacher uses gesture with me to help students remember rules and definitions. Hand gestures provide a scaffold for storing and accessing information in long-term memory. The gestures both represent and resemble the concept being taught.
