Students Build Confidence
Using modelling techniques is a highly effective way to build students’ confidence. Students are guided in their practice as they perform the task along with the teacher and can practise before providing their individual response.
Students can hear unfamiliar words and practise correct pronunciation before saying the word or reading independently. When using the read with me technique students can hear the teacher read in an appropriate pace, volume and tone. This provides them with a model to follow when reading themselves. Similarly, track with me allows students to connect the sound of the word to the physical word.

Students gain confidence when they are primed for success by pre-teaching difficult or unfamiliar vocabulary, equations or concepts. They can then provide responses with confidence.
