The Teacher Notes Responses Through all Parts of the Lesson
A teacher, Michael, is teaching a maths lesson. The first exercise is a review exercise. Students identify numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, = and +. Students made an error on =. Michael corrects the error and puts a tick mark in his teacher presentation book on =.
The second exercise is a review counting exercise. Students make no errors. Michael praised his students and then called on four students for individual turns on the counting exercise. One student made an error. Michael noted the error on a pre-printed list of student names and wrote what the task was beside the student’s name.
Michael assigns independent work. Students complete both sides of their maths worksheet. Michael actively monitors as students work. He notes student responses as he circulates. As students complete their work, he puts a ‘c’ beside items that students did correctly. He puts a dot beside any item that is incorrect and tells students to look at that problem again. He checks students’ worksheets when they are finished and gives a per cent score based on the number of items correct.
