Principal Presents Findings and Recommended Actions

Principal Pat notices a pattern of regular student absences as well as behaviour issues in the classrooms. The school began collecting data on student absences and behaviour over a term. With the school team, he has developed a ‘High Five’ strategy to tackle the issue.

Pat holds a Forum for parents to share the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Parents and community member have input in the Community Compact, which is then displayed on a large board near the entrance of the school.

Pat leads conversations regarding school achievements with teachers, students, and parents.

All school team members actively involve parents in problem-solving discussions about their child’s learning, which empowers them to support their children and increases their commitment to education. Teachers continue to include parents in conversations and notice a significant improvement in behaviour and attendance.

Across several weeks, Glenn asks the school team to continue monitoring behaviour and attendance and to reach out to parents when there are issues surrounding behaviour and attendance. Parents and students are held accountable and are part of discussions to create strategies that will support the student in reaching the high expectations set by the school and community. Parents are contacted to celebrate the achievement when child is progressing toward the goals.
