The School Culture is Not Positive

The School Culture is Not Positive
Janeville primary has been working on becoming a Positive High Expectations school. They have set their SIP and have had training throughout the year with instructional coach, Lucy. The data collected to date shows that the school has improved their attendance by 63% and level 1 behavior has reduced by 42%. Despite these improvements, staff morale is low and there has been an increase in staff absences in recent weeks.
Lucy discusses the issue with Principal, Don, and decides to conduct a short survey to find the root of the problem. When the data is collated, Lucy identifies that teachers are feeling unappreciated for their efforts in working towards to SIP. They are also unhappy that the progress has not been more celebrated in parades and through social media. They are tired and feel overworked, thus taking more sick days. The problem is also beginning to affect student progress. When a positive culture is not created across the school, it is harder to motivate the whole team to continuously improve and learn.
