The Teacher does not Contribute to Building a High-Expectations School Culture

When a teacher does not use specific positive praise effectively, it results in greater behavioural challenges, less student engagement, and a more negative classroom culture. Students learn that they can get the teachers attention when they behave inappropriately.

The problem is compounded.

The teacher does not:

  • create a classroom environment that reflects the school vision, values and expected behaviours
  • have high expectations for students regarding their engagement and learning
  • model positive high expectations for their students
  • demonstrate commitment to mastery of effective teaching or maximise the educational outcome for their students.
