The Teacher does not Promote Expected

Behaviours

Students need to know what the expectations are. Without clearly stated specific positive praise statements, the teacher does not promote expected behaviours. Poor behaviour is more likely to occur as students get attention when inappropriate behaviours are focused on.

The problem is compounded

  • The teacher does not regularly teach classroom rules and routines; disruptions and inappropriate behaviours increase.
  • The teacher does not set up the classroom to see the whole class or move around easily to listen closely to individual students during group responses and does not use proximity to encourage appropriate behaviour.
  • The teacher cannot see which students are not following directions and paying attention.
  • The teacher does not place lower-performing students front and centre within close proximity to them.
  • The teacher does not assign seating; distractions are high, leading to inappropriate behaviours.
