Teacher Models High Expectations
A teacher, Mickey, invites the ‘lion’ group to join him at the table for their direction instruction using Connecting Math Concepts. Mickey also invites the parents of the children in the group to join and observe their children learning in a positive high expectations environment.

Before they begin their lesson, Mickey goes over the expectations of small group behaviour and how students can earn points for participating and answering correctly by following them. He also quickly explicitly teaches the behaviour expectations before they start so the students and parents hear what is expected of the students.
As he teaches the small group, he gives out positive praise to students following the behaviour expectations and students who are actively engaged in the lesson are earning points.
After the lesson, Mickey discusses with the parents ways they can apply behaviour expectations at home and continually reinforce them so that their children know exactly what their parents expect of them.
