The Teacher Lowers Expectations

Teacher, Lauren, has scheduled classroom visits and sends the invites out to all parents. Many parents reply they cannot make it due to work conflicts since it was so close to a holiday.

Instead of extending the visits, scheduling a different week or just running it with those parents that can come and organising a better day in consultation with parents next time, she just cancels the scheduled visits.

Lauren does not understand that parent classroom visits are required to build rapport, collaborate and help maximise educational outcomes.

By not understanding that parent classroom visits are required, Lauren showed the parents that she doesn’t have high expectations of the parents to visit or be involved in their child’s learning.
