The Leadership Team Revise the School-wide Behaviour Management Model

Principal, Christa, and Instruction Coach, Greg, are developing the School Improvement Plan (SIP). This year, they have identified the need for implementing clear consequences to limit disruptions caused by problem behaviours. Christa and Greg work with the Behaviour Management Team to review the continuum of consequences in their school’s Behaviour Management Model. They turn the continuum into a simple flowchart that shows how to manage Level 1, 2 and 3 behaviours. They make copies of the flowchart for every teacher and schedule training to introduce the flowchart.

Teachers have been trained and the leadership team has reinforced the importance of being consistent in the consequences used. Coach, Greg, monitors minor and major incident data as well as positive behaviour data recorded weekly by the school team. He shares the data at weekly Behaviour Management Team meetings so that anomalies can be identified and interventions designed at every tier of behavioural need. As teachers continue to use the continuum of consequences with fidelity, progress towards behaviour goals can be reliably measured. During staff meetings and weekly assemblies, the leadership team reinforce the expectations and celebrate the improvement in behaviour.

Christa and Greg are seeing progress of behaviour which is transferring to improvement in school results.
