What Happens When Routines and Behaviour Standards are Taught and Embedded with Fidelity
Teaching and Embedding Routines and Behaviour Standards
Routines consist of specific steps that are explicitly taught and practised for things that happen all the time in the classroom. Expectations relate to how routines are performed and general behaviour within the classroom. Routines and expectations are learned, followed and mastered using effective teaching practices.

What it Achieves
In effective teaching, using routines and expectations is an essential part of optimising learning time. Routines and expectations mean that teachers and students know what to do and how to do it, without thinking about it or needing to ask questions. When the teacher clearly establishes routines and expectations, transitions are seamless and valuable learning time is not lost.
More Detail
By proactively teaching routines and expectations, unwanted behaviour can be avoided. Students feel secure and are more likely to behave appropriately when they know what is expected.
