School Needs Classroom Rules and Routines Aligned with School-Wide Values
The principal is encouraging teachers to display the school-wide values in their classrooms, and to develop their own set of classroom rules based on those school-wide values. This provides consistency for all the staff and students in the school, who now understand the expectations school-wide.
Dan is a second-year teacher. It is Week 7 of the new school year, and he has not yet set up his classroom rules and routines. He is unexpectedly taken ill, and a substitute is brought in to teach his class. The substitute teacher is unclear about what the expectations are for the students in his class, and the behaviour in the classroom suffers. Because Dan had not set the classroom rules, routines and expectations, the students cannot maximise their learning time.
