Professional Development
Professional Development with Anita Archer
Overview
This professional development series provides educators with research-informed strategies to inform vocabulary instruction and the teaching of writing in their classrooms. Presented by Anita Archer, each module focuses on practical techniques immediately applicable to increase student engagement, comprehension and skill mastery.
Educators will learn to identify critical vocabulary from texts, adopt evidence-based strategies such as teaching relative words, known synonyms and word pairs. Modules on writing instruction provide structured approaches on how to teach writing genres, frames and ways of motivating students. Participants will also explore techniques for eliciting student responses, giving feedback in real-time and scaffolding student work with compare-and-contrast think sheets.
Each module emphasises instructional routines, step-by-step demonstrations and practice. Teachers will gain insight into selecting and using teaching tools, read-alouds, rubrics, exemplars and writing frames to produce independent and confident students.
By the end of this series, educators will have effective means to close vocabulary gaps, improve student writing and create engaging, research-driven classroom experiences that enhance learning outcomes.
