Corrections in Deductions and Dialect
and Directions
To correct ‘deductions’, ‘dialect and directions’ exercises quickly analyse where the Students are going wrong and focus the correction on the point of confusion.
The general rule is to repeat the appropriate rule or key statement and have Students apply the rule to the challenging task. Whenever correcting errors, repeat the task the Students missed and return to the start of the exercise to make sure Students are at mastery.
In order to prepare for correcting errors skilfully, it is important to practice the script.
Practice is more than reading over the script. The best way to practice is with a partner, who plays the part of the student. If that is not possible, practice aloud, record yourself on a computer and listen to yourself.
Turn to ‘RMSE-LA ‘2 Teacher’s Guide pages 37 – 38, lesson 8, exercise 5. Read through the exercise. Review the teaching notes. Practice the exercise with your partner, ‘pausing and punching’ on the bolded text.
