Temporal Sequencing

Activities for ‘temporal sequencing’ begin in lesson twenty-seven. Students complete activities that present picture sequences of events that occur in time.

These activities improve understanding between when events are mentioned in a sentence and when they occur.

Use an ‘auditory signal’ for these exercises.

The process involves the following:

  • Instruct Students to ‘Find Part ‘B'”. Check and say; “These pictures show what Bleep did first, next and last. Touch the first picture. Everybody, what did Bleep do first?” and signal.
  • Say; “Touch ‘Picture Two’. That picture shows what Bleep did after he talked on the phone. What did he do after he talked on the phone?” and signal. Say; “Yes, Bleep climbed a ladder after he talked on the phone”. Repeat the process for ‘Picture Three’.
  • Say; “‘Touch Picture Three’. That picture shows what Bleep did after he climbed a ladder. What did he do after he climbed a ladder?” and signal. Say; “Yes, Bleep rode a bike after he climbed a ladder”.
  • Say; “Touch the picture of Bleep riding a bike. Listen: Bleep rode a bike after he did something else. He rode a bike after he did what?” and signal.
  • Say; “I’ll start with Bleep rode a bike and tell when he did that. Listen: Bleep rode a bike after he climbed a ladder. Your turn: Start with Bleep rode a bike and tell when. Get ready. Go!” and signal. Repeat until firm.
  • Continues through the exercise. Students verbally respond to questions about Bleep’s activities and complete sentences about the same content.
