Star Rules

Classroom learning rules set the tone for a positive learning environment. The star rules are most commonly used.

S – Sit Tall

Sit tall: feet on the floor, back against the chair, hands in lap.

T – Talk Big

Talk big: answer in a normal voice, not a yell, not a whisper.

A – Answer on Signal

Answer on signal: when teacher gives a signal, answer with group.

R – Respect Others

Respect others: we are all here to learn; we all make mistakes sometimes.

The teacher posts the star rules in the immediate learning area, so they are visible to students during the lesson.

The teacher reviews the star rules with the group every day before starting the lesson and elicits a choral read through them.

The teacher reinforces the star rules at the beginning of the school year, the start of each term or whenever students need a reminder.

At the beginning of the school year, points are given frequently for following the star rules. As students learn the rules, points become more academically focused.
