Individual Turns

All word practice exercises are presented to the entire group. The word “Everybody” in the script indicates that students respond together as a group when the teacher provides the signal. The last exercise in the word practice section of the lesson is called individual turns. In this section, you will find the words that students have practised for that lesson. The script directions will indicate that the teacher should call on individual students to read one or two words each. (See RMT 4, Exercise 4 from Lesson 5, page 4).

The teacher should always prioritise the lowest performers first when deciding who to call on to read the words. A general rule is to give about 25 per cent of the group individual turns when it is specified in the script.
