Responsibility for improvement is shared

amongst school team

Principal Julie is approached by teacher Zach with the concern that his maths students are not meeting their lesson progression target. Julie compares their progression rate to the goal set in the SIP. She compares this anomaly with the classroom teacher’s action plan tasks and sees that Zach has completed the effective teaching modules he was assigned.

Julie schedules an Effective Teaching Techniques observation with Zach. She notes on the observation form that Zach is not using the proper correction procedure or giving sufficient individual turns to check for mastery. She assigns a peer mentor to practise these techniques with Zach and schedules a follow-up observation for the next month.

Zach informally updates Julie of his progress after a staff meeting. Both Zach and Julie are committed to school improvement.
