What happens when practice is delivered
with fidelity?
The practice
A School Improvement Plan (SIP) sets out how the school team will improve their school and their students outcomes. It may be focused only on the central areas of teaching practices and learning outcomes for students. Or it may also focus on school wide strategies around student welfare, community engagement school culture and the school environment. The principal sets the SIP in consultation with the community and their school team. The SIP should be a reflection of the ambitions parents have for their children, and the shared values and behaviours required to realise them and the type of education that will be required to achieve it.

What it achieves
As the school and community team improve their practice, students attendance, wellbeing, engagement and curiosity towards learning is lifted.Additionally, the school community is strengthened. The school team work with the community to better the school and the education and support they provide their students.

More detail
The SIP outlines what actions will be taken, by whom and the timeframe to improve student engagement, attendance and learning outcomes. The principal analyses data to identify structural and instructional factors in need of improvement within the school and sets their standard for improvement outcomes. They evaluate the school team’s improvement process and support staff when issues arise. The instruction coach assists the principal by assigning professional development to the teaching team and observing teaching practice aligned with the SIP goals. The teaching team collects vital data on how their students are mastering the content and how to improve their teahing tobest respond to student needs and lift student results.
