Object identification formats

In object identification, students identify common objects by two-word responses. The point-touch signal is used.

The Process

The teacher points to the letter before asking the question and looks at the book to prompt the students to look at the book. The teacher touches the picture as long as the students are responding and lifts their finger once the students stop responding. The teacher moves rapidly from picture to picture, asking questions quickly and avoiding pauses.

The process is:

  • The teacher identifies the pictures by saying; ‘I’ll tell you about these pictures’.
  • The teacher points to A and says, ‘a tree’ and signals (point-touch).
  • The teacher identifies items B, C, and D (point-touch) and repeats.
  • The teacher says, ‘Now, it’s your turn’ and points to each item and says, ‘What is this?’ and signals (point-touch).
  • The teacher says, ‘Let’s name these things again. When I touch something, tell me the name’ and signals (point-touch).
