Vocabulary Exercises Corrections

Most errors on vocabulary exercise occur when students have to replace an entire phrase with a single word, or vise versa.

Correct errors of this type by modelling the correct answer and then repeating the task, giving students a couple extra seconds of think time before signalling. In the correction illustrated, students made an error when answering; “what’s another way of saying he worked very hard in the fields?”

Model

“Listen. ‘He toiled in the fields'”.

Test

“What’s another way of saying he worked very hard in the fields?”

Give a couple extra seconds of think time (auditory signal).

“‘He toiled in the fields’.”

Re-test

“Yes, let’s start that part again, word 6 is toil”.

Repeats all of the steps for ‘toil’.
